March 1, 2012 Vol. 26, No. 1 [p. 1]

Dear Friends,

John Banks and Lawrence Bush

Since the last newsletter, time here has been very eventful. I will share a few of the activities as they happened. God is always at work in the People of God.

North and West finished; a new look for an 'old lady'

Needed !!!

Willing hands to help paint the walls of the newly renovated dining room. Just call Mary!

On December 20 our friend, John Banks from Gluckstadt erected an arbor for us on the west side of the dining room. John and Lawrence Bush are pictured left taking careful measurements as they put up the north end. This spring he has promised to plant jasmine to cover it completely. This will add beauty to this long wall.

After studying our utility bill for the dining room and the chapel, we made the decision to make some improvements to cut energy costs.

Since the greatest need is the dining room, we have begun there first. The week of February 20 saw renovations begin. Larry Moore and his crew through Lowes began first with new windows in the kitchen and dining room. Then additional insulation was wrapped around the outside of the building over which vinyl siding was installed. (Good thing the Drawdown was successful.) We will be toasty warm. As this goes to print further interior renovation has begun.

(l to r) Mary, Lawrence, and Clare plant crepe myrtle

Crepe Myrtles anyone?

We have landscaped the front of Assisi Administration building; now it was time to put finishing touches on the deck side.

During the balmy weather of February 8 and 9 Lawrence, Mary, and Clare dug up eleven crepe myrtle; volunteers planted them in a neat row across the back. Now just watch them beautify the southern landscape.

Creating Sabbath Space in our Lives

The Dwelling Place Community and Associates

"Creating Sabbath Space in our Lives" presented by Ron Rolheiser was the topic of our Community/Associate weekend February 17-19. He gave us a gentle reminder for our busy lives.

Pictured right is the group preparing to renew their covenants. Seated are Joan Bartik, Clara Hicks, Carol Jones, and Clare. Standing are Mary Ethridge, Libby Thompson and Karen Henry. Mary is behind the camera.

Come to Pray... on Your Time

We schedule retreats at specific times but we welcome you to come privately for retreat or spiritual direction anytime it is convenient for you and space is available. Three hermitages (small cottages) are available. Just check our website and send in your request.

Consider bringing your prayer group, deacons, parish council, or a group of faith-filled friends to experience the peace and renewal that so many individuals experience here. Bring your own director. Tailor the time to fit your need for silence, prayer, sharing and input.

Check our website for options available. Contact Sheila Avery, secretary, 662-738-5348 to schedule your time.
